Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety

Admission Requirements

  • HKCEE with 5 subjects pass including Chinese and English Language or equivalent; or

  • Graduate of Project Yi Jin; or

  • Mature students (aged 21 or above) with relevant working experience; or

  • Other equivalent qualifications to be assessed by LIFE.

Programme Objectives

This programme aims to:

  • have an understanding on the fundamental principles in occupational health and safety;

  • have a clear understanding on the statutory and regulatory requirements of health and safety at work, both in the contexts of Hong Kong and PRC;

  • identify hazards and potential hazards at work;

  • advise employers and employees on practical solutions to solve health and safety problems; and

  • formulate strategies for proper management of risks and hazards at work.

Programme Features

  • All Modules have been included in the list of reimbursable modules for Continuing Education Fund (CEF) purposes.

  • This programme is recognized under the Qualifications Framework (QF: level 3; QR registration number: 15/000073/L3; and the validity period from 03 Feb 2015 to 31 Dec 2018).

Programme Structure

  • The programme consists 4 core and 2 elective course with 180 contact hours.

  • The programme is a part-time programme and lasts for one year.

 
Medium of Instruction

  • The course will be taught in Chinese and English.

 
Assessment
Assessment will consist of examinations, case studies, exercises and presentations and written assignments. The assessment mix of each course will be determined by individual course instructor and the Programme Management Committee.
 
To be eligible for the award of the diploma, a student must

  • attend at least 70% of the classes;

  • pass the relevant examinations; and

  • complete the prescribed continuous assessments and satisfy the requirements.

 
Students with relevant working experience who completed this programme can apply for the Registered Safety Officer Registration of the Labour Department of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

  • Risk Management (30-hour)

  • Occupational Hygiene (30-hour)

  • Safety in Food and Catering Industry (30-hour)

  • Construction Safety Management (30-hour)

  • Office Ergonomics (30-hour)

Tuition Fee

  • $18,000 (In two installments, each installment $9,000)
