Diploma in Child Development

Admission Requirements

  • 3 passes in the HKCEE, and Level 2 / Grade E or above in Chinese Language & English Language with 2 years of working experience; or

  • Satisfactory completion of Project Yi Jin Programme with 2 years of working experience; or

  • Being 21 years of age or above; or

  • Other equivalent qualifications to be assessed by LIFE.

Programme Objectives

This programme is specially designed to provide foundation knowledge of child development. The knowledge and learning experience in the programme provide students with practical knowledge in the field of child development.
 
This programme aims to:

  • identify the normal development of children aged 0–12, with an emphasis on children’s cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral development.

  • outline the educational needs and motivational strategies that facilitate the learning of children.

  • develop skills to encourage and support the development of children in appropriate ways.

Programme Features

  • Graduates can articulate to higher level of academic studies (eg. Professional Diploma) or join the workforce.

  • This diploma programme provides further education opportunity for Form Five, Project Yi Jin graduates or mature adults.

  • This programme is recognized under the Qualifications Framework (QF: level 3; QR registration number: 11/001623/3; and the validity period from  25 October 2011 to 31 December 2015).

Programme Structure

  • One-year programme with 192 contact hours.

  • It consists of 6 modules in total.

  • Classes are usually offered in the evening of Monday to Friday or in Saturday afternoon, usually two lessons per week.

  • Three intakes per year.


Medium of Instruction

  • The medium of instruction will be in Cantonese supplementary with English. (Study materials will mainly be in English.)


Assessment

  • Students' performances are assessed by the continuous assessments (i.e. written assignments / projects) and examinations.

  • The passing mark for both continuous assessments and examination is 40%.

  • Students are required to achieve a minimum of 80% attendance in each subject.

Tuition Fee

  • $16,500 (In two installments, each installment $8,250)

  • Special offer*: 10% off on tuition fee will be offered to CCLU & LIFE students and alumni
