Professional Diploma in Applied Psychology

Admission Requirements

  • 3 passes in the HKCEE, and Level 2/Grade E or above in Chinese Language and English Language ; plus a pass in 1 AL subject or 2 AS-level subjects in the HKALE; or

  • A recognised Pre-Associate Degree or Diploma; or

  • Being 23 years of age or above; or

  • Other equivalent qualifications to be assessed by LIFE.

Programme Objectives

This programme aims to:  

  • provide relevant knowledge about psychology with a scientific analysis of mental processes and human behaviour

  • equip students with ability to apply knowledge of psychology to daily life and human interaction

  • prepare students for more advanced study in any area of psychology

Programme Features

  • This programme is recognized under the Qualifications Framework (QF: level 4; QR registration number: 11/001484/4; and the validity period from 01 September 2011 to 31 December 2015).

Programme Structure

  • 1.5 years programme with 320 contact hours.

  • It consists of 10 modules in total.


Medium of Instruction

  • The medium of instruction will be in English supplemented by Cantonese. Study materials will mainly be in English.
     

Assessment

  • Students' performances are assessed by the continuous assessments (i.e. written assignments / projects) and examinations. The weighting of assessment for continuous assessments is 60% and examination is 40%. Except for the module of “Personal Growth: Knowing Self and Others” is 100% of continuous assessments and “Career Development and Life Style” is 80% of continuous assessments and 20% of examination.

  • The passing mark for both continuous assessment and examination is 50%.

  • Students are required to achieve a minimum of 80% attendance in each module.


Award

  • An academic transcript will be issued to each student at the end of the programme.

  • A certificate of “Professional Diploma in Applied Psychology " will be awarded upon successful completion of the programme.

  • $32,000 (In three installments, first installment is $12,000, second and third installments are $10,000)
