Standard Route

To be eligible for the Standard Route of one of the degrees, an applicant shall:
  • normally be at least 17 years old on or before 30 November; and
  • have either passes in:
    • two subjects at GCE 'A' level, plus at least three further subjects at GCSE/ GCE 'O' level at Grade C or higher or a ‘pass’ if taken prior to 1975; or
    • three subjects at GCE 'A' level (with one 'A' level at not lower than grade D); or
    • three subjects at GCE 'A' level and one further subject at GCSE/GCE 'O' level at Grade C or higher; or
    • two subject at GCE 'A' level, plus two further subjects at GCE 'AS' level; or
    • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE): provided 2 Category A subjects are passed at level 3 or above and 3 further Category A subjects are passed at level 2 or above; or
    • Associate degree / Advanced Diploma / Higher Certificate / Higher Diploma, provided this is accredited by The Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications at the point of award and is listed on the Qualifications Register; or
    • Hong Kong Management Association/Lingnan University Joint Diploma in Management Studies
Requirement for English Proficiency
  • Hong Kong Examination Authority Advanced level Use of English (grade C or above); or
  • Hong Kong Certificate of Education English Language (Syllabus B) (at grade C or above); or
  • Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) English Language section from 2007 performance levels 5*, 5, 4 or 3; or
  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE): English Language passed at Level 3 or above; or
  • Passed acceptable examinations equivalent to GCSE/GCE ‘O’ level English Language at grade C or above; or
  • Demonstrated fluency in academic English gained through either:
    • Five years secondary schooling taught solely in English and/or passed GCE ‘A’ levels or IB in essay based subjects; or
    • Passed an International Foundation programme for UK HEI entry with a unit in English for Academic purposes (EAP) or its equivalent; or
    • A first degree or Associate degree taught and examined in English; or
    • Have passed a Diploma awarded by any of the polytechnics in Malaysia, Singapore or Hong Kong; or
  • Within past three years:
    • Passed International English Language Testing System (IELTS)when an overall score of at least 6 is achieved with a minimum of 5.5 in each sub-test; or
    • Passed TOEFL with a score of 580, 237 on the computerised test plus a Test of Written English (TWE) of at least 4.5; or
    • Passed a test of proficiency in English language from the prescribed list published by the University; or
    • Awarded in Hong Kong, an associate degree, higher diploma or degree by a university in Hong Kong that is acceptable to the University of London
 
Accreditation of prior learning
  • A student has passed examinations that are comparable in level, content and standard to the University of London examinations may apply for “accreditation of prior learning (APL)”.
  • APL are normally considered on a subject-for-subject basis and be exempted up to a maximum of four Year 1 full courses.
